A memorial golf outing was held to honor a loved one and benefit a scholarship program.

The 6th Annual Adolph Lopez Memorial Golf Outing was held Sunday, August 6, 2015 at Hidden Hills Golf Course in Bettendorf, Iowa.

"Adolph Lopez was a charter member of our council here in Davenport," said Matt Casillas, President of LULAC Council 10. "We've been around 56 years so he was a charter member, started the club 56 years ago."

"He was a golfer and passed away about 7 years back," he added. "He golfed a lot with his nieces and nephews and he was also a strong supporter of our scholarship program so his wife and his nieces and nephews decided to throw this golf tournament in his honor."

The fee to participate was $70 and came with a cart, a Mexican dinner and a goodie bag. All proceeds went to the League of United Latin American Citizens Scholarship Program.

"This is one of our largest fundraisers and we get anywhere from $10,000-$12,000 out of this event," said Casillas.

LULAC Council 10 will have another fundraiser - their annual fiesta - on September 12th. It takes place at the LULAC Hall, located at 4224 Ricker Hill Road, Davenport.

To date, Casillas said LULAC Council 10 has given more than $475,000 in scholarships to high school students since the scholarship program started more than 30 years ago.

"Our goal is just to get as many kids as we can into school, help them get off to a good head start, and be financially stable," he said. "We know that school is getting more expensive so this scholarship is really important to our organization. LULAC is the oldest civic Hispanic civil rights in the country and we're proud to be part of that."
