A man hit a curb and was thrown from his motorcycle after trying to avoid a crash with a car that ran a stop sign, according to police.
The car did not obey a stop sign at the intersection of Rockingham Road and Sturdevant Street in Davenport, Iowa, and drove into the path of the motorcycle, said Capt. Jeffrey Bladel. The motorcyclist, 80-year-old Ralph Butler, swerved to avoid being hit and ended up striking the north curb; he was thrown from his motorcycle.
Police were called to the crash around 2:10 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015. They found that Butler had been seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to Iowa City, Bladel said.
On Friday police said Butler was still hospitalized for his injuries.
The car involved in the incident was later stopped by police and was cited for failing to stop/yield from a stop sign and expired registration, according to Bladel.
