Family seeking answers in Davenport hit and run

A family wants to find the driver that hit their son and then took off. His mother says you can help the police find out what happened.

A family wants to find the driver that hit their son and then took off. His mother says you can help the police find out what happened.

Connie and Dale Huizenga have more questions than answers.

"We want to find out what happened so that we can put it together. I mean this is my son, I want to know what happened to him," said Connie.

Early Sunday morning they got a call from Davenport police. They would learn that their son Bill Carter was the victim of a hit and run. Bill had been out with some friends. Around 1:30 in the morning he decided to walk home. That's when police say he was hit by a vehicle on Telegraph Road near First Street.

"There were some faint tire treads at the scene which indicates that somebody tried to stop but didn't accomplish it for whatever reason," said Connie.

Bill was found unresponsive by a passerby.

"We were told that if Bill had laid there much longer he would have died," said Connie.

The driver was nowhere in sight. The 43-year-old, who's an Iraqi War Veteran and a father, is now in intensive care.

"He's in serious condition, he remains on life support," said Connie.

Bill's parents are asking for help so they can get some answers.

"No matter how small or insignificant the detail, if you know someone, know something, heard something, please call it in," said Connie.

If anyone has any information, they're asked to call the Davenport Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 309-762-9500.  You can also submit anonymous tips using the “Do What’s Right” app, which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play site.
