A fire that started in the bedroom of a Muscatine, Iowa house caused structural and smoke damage.

First responders received a report of smoke coming from the upstairs window and eves before 5: 30 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, according to a statement from Assistant Fire Chief Mike Hartman with the Muscatine Fire Department. When firefighters arrived to the house in the 500 block of Woodland Way, they found black smoke inside that was coming out of a window.

Hartman said firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly and had it contained to the corner of a bedroom.  More than a dozen firefighters responded from Muscatine, Fruitland, and Wilton Fire Departments. The Muscatine Police Department responded as well.

The loss estimate is about $10,000 and firefighters don’t know what caused the fire, according to the statement.

Fire investigators were at the house until 9 p.m., and Hartman said police patrols were set to run throughout the evening.
