With all the controversy that has surrounded Planned Parenthood recently, several Republican senators are working to defund them. At the same time, an Iowa congressman is defending the things they do to help women and families.
Iowa Senator Joni Ernst was part of a group of several other Republican senators who introduced a bill to stop giving federal money to Planned Parenthood. The bill comes weeks after an anti-abortion group released a video that seemed to show Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue. Click here to watch that video.
On the flip side, Congressman Dave Loebsack stood up for the organization and said he would not support attempts to defund them.
"The videos are hideous, there are absolutely no questions about that, but the fact of the matter is, as I just said, Planned Parenthood does so many other things for women and for families, that it doesn't make any sense to pull that funding from them," he said.
Loebsack said that the funding doesn't go toward abortions, but to other healthcare services for women, such as check ups and contraceptives.
