Missing money from Scott County Sheriff’s Office prompts investigation

Missing money from accounts belonging to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office has prompted an investigation.

Missing money from accounts belonging to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office has prompted an investigation.

A statement from the sheriff’s office said that “irregularities” were found in some accounts that were tended to by a former employee who had been terminated.

The discovery led to the initiation of an accounting investigation by McGladrey LLP and a criminal investigation by the Davenport Police Department, according to the statement.

Once their investigations are complete, the results will be handed over to the Scott County Attorney’s Office where possible criminal charges may be filed.

After it was discovered that money was missing from the accounts, the sheriff’s office said they have “implemented controls to ensure that this type of incident does not occur in the future.”

The sheriff’s office added that with the help of McGladrey’s completed study and the work of County audit firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, further review of controls will be done.
