Thousands of Uber rides taken during app’s first week in the Quad Cities

One week after its launch in the Quad Cities, Uber is proving to be a money-maker for local drivers.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2015, the ride-sharing service went live in the Quad Cities. By downloading the smartphone app, customers can find drivers who are close to their location, arrange for a pick-up, and pay for rides using credit card.

Dozens of people have signed on to drive for the company, including people like Ricky Hoyt from Moline.

"It's been a blast. It's been really busy. The night times are obviously the most active, but it's been fun. Everyone's been really nice; there's been good conversation," said Hoyt.

Hoyt said he enjoys setting his own schedule, and there's been plenty of business to keep him occupied.

"Saturday night, I worked from about 8 to 12:30, and I would drop somebody off and within a minute or two I'd have another call. It was very, very busy. I probably did 18 trips in those four hours," said Hoyt.

The company won't release any numbers, but Uber spokesperson Jamie Moore said they've already given thousands of rides in the Quad Cities, calling it a "really impressive" first week.

Uber is still recruiting drivers in the Quad Cities, as well. You can apply online at uber.com/drive.
