Crews will start demolishing the iconic smokestack at Davenport Central High School early Wednesday morning.
The 85-year-old, 160-foot-high structure will take several days to tear down, piece by piece, starting at the top.
The smokestack that originally cooled the campus' boilers will now be torn down to make room for the $21.1 million swimming pool and auditorium renovations.
There won't be any roads or businesses closed for the construction.
