Davenport is asking what residents want out of their city moving forward.

In order to find those answers, they’ll host a series of meetings next week to update the Davenport 2025 Comprehensive Plan.

"We want to hear from everybody, even if you're a student and knowing you've only got a year left or a semester," said Matt Flynn, Davenport’s Senior Planning Manager.

One of the most pressing issues for people in the downtown area seems to be housing the homeless.

“They should build a bigger shelter, so kids and women can be there at the same time," said Steven Ewing of Davenport.

“Get the government buildings that were over there on Pershing and used them for the homeless. They need to have housing for the homeless, cheap housing,” added Chris Adams, also from Davenport.

Others said the focus of the future should be on kids and their classrooms.

“Some of the schools still don't have air conditioning. I know my son complains a lot that its hot, and he's still supposed to perform the way they want him to perform,” explained Angela Lathan.

The meetings will be held at the Fairmont Branch Library this Thursday, the Eastern Branch Library on August 3rd, and the Freight House Community Room on August 13th. All meetings will begin at 6:00 pm.
