As organizers set up FLOATZILLA, they are looking for volunteers to help paddlers navigate the Mississippi River.
The event was set for Saturday, August 15, 2015. This will be the 6th year for FLOATZILLA, which starts in Hampton, Moline, Davenport, and Rock Island at 7:30 a.m.
All participants will meet in their canoes and kayaks at 4:30 p.m. at Lake Potter, Sunset Park in Rock Island.
Each year FLOATZILLA is held to celebrate paddlesports. All attendees attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest raft of canoes and kayaks, according to the event Facebook page.
The record, 2,099 crafts, was set in 2013 in Suttons Bay, Michigan. The official count from FLOATZILLA 2014 was 959.
Volunteers will be needed at several locations: Hampton/East Moline border, Ben Butterworth Parkway, Main Street and Marquette Street in Davenport, Credit Island in Davenport, and at Lake Potter in Rock Island.
Other volunteers will be needed to help at Credit Island in Davenport the day before FLOATZILLA for packet pickup.
