About 160 John Deere Seeding employees in Moline, Illinois have been laid off.

The employees were told Thursday, July 23, 2015 that they would be placed on an indefinite layoff, according to Global Public Relations Director Ken Golden. The layoffs happened because of an inventory adjustment shutdown.

"Other employees who had been on inventory adjustment shutdown will return to work as planned in August," Golden said.

Golden explained in a statement that the market demand for products and workforce efficiency have been taken into consideration as Deere works to adjust the size of the manufacturing workforce.

Referring to Deere's second-quarter earnings, Golden said equipment sales were expected to drop this year.

"At some locations, Deere has brought employees back to work," Golden said. "That was the case in a recent recall of employees in Waterloo."
