With around 20,000 participants, between 50,000 and 75,000 spectators, 5,000 volunteers, and 200,000 of those tiny water cups - it could be one for the record books.
The 41st Annual Quad City Times Bix 7 takes place on Saturday, July 25th, 2015, but all the action starts Thursday, July 23rd, 2015.
The Quad City Bank and Trust "Battle Up Brady" starts at 7pm on Thursday. From 5pm-9pm, the Running Wild Sports and Fitness Expo takes place at the RiverCenter.
On Friday, the Expo continues from 9am-9pm. At night, the Alcoa Junior Bix is at 6pm. Then, on Saturday, the Swiss Valley Quick Bix and Quad City Times Bix 7 starts at 8am.
"It's a lot of prep, a lot of set up, and a lot of coordination, but the excitement is still the same," said Ellen Hermiston, Operations Director of the Bix.
Hermiston said the Bix is a huge boost for the Quad Cities and Joe Taylor with the Quad Cities Convention and Tourism Bureau agreed. He said the Bix alone has a direct impact of several million dollars on the local economy. That - plus the indirect impact of media attention and publicity - and he said this year could hit a record.
"Over 50% of the people come from outside of Iowa and Illinois," Hermiston said of the race participants. "Every state is represented. We have many foreign countries represented. It just encompasses everyone."
As of Thursday, most hotels were nearly full. The Radisson in downtown Davenport is 95% full and the Hotel Blackhawk is 90%.
Restaurants are also getting ready for an influx of customers. After being closed for a few years, The Starting Line is back.
"We really want to bring back the glory of what it was," explained Troy Gutknecht, who co-owns the bar and gastropub with several other business owners. "We had talked about doing a collaboration together for awhile and this kind of fell in our laps, so we took advantage of it."
The Starting Line was open from 1991-2010, then closed for the last five years. It's located at 217 Brady Street and gets its name from the starting line location of the Bix.
Gutknecht said for their grand opening weekend, they'll be open starting at 4pm on Thursday and Friday, then 6am on Saturday. They will close for three days, then officially open on Wednesday, July 29th. The Starting Line will offer lunch and dinner, as well as delivery options and a late-night menu.
Bix is not the only big event happening this weekend. There's also Bix Street Fest on 2nd Street in downtown, Davenport and RAGBRAI rolls into town on Saturday - ending on Credit Island in Davenport.
There will be several road closures that start Thursday and last until Sunday. For detailed maps, click here.
