Police, volunteers search cornfields for missing Quad City man

Davenport Police and volunteers have joined the family in the search for a missing mentally challenged man who walked away from his group home.

Davenport Police and volunteers have joined the family in the search for a missing mentally challenged man who walked away from his group home Friday, July 17, 2015.

Jim Terhune, 56, suffers from a brain injury and is a diabetic, and is without his insulin.

"We've been everywhere. We've hung well over 100 posters, been to shelters, nobody has seen him," said his niece, Janie Fawcett.

Fawcett says her uncle was going to get some ice cream from an ice cream truck in his neighborhood at 55th Street and Division in Davenport.

She says the staff at the group home went looking for him after about ten minutes.

"I feel like as quickly as he disappeared, he probably got in someone;s vehicle. It was a really hot day," Fawcett said.

On Tuesday afternoon, a search party combed the nearby cornfields for any sign of Terhune.

"The cornfield is close. Maybe he got hot, maybe he got confused, maybe he took a wrong turn," Fawcett said.

She and several family members were joined by police and volunteers who heard about Terhune on Quad Cities Missing Persons Facebook page.

A couple of people in on the search knew Terhune, most were strangers, just worried about his well-being.

"We're still hopeful. We're not going to give up," said Fawcett.

Anyone with information can call the Davenport Police Department.
