Police say a boy spotted riding an ATV at high speeds through streets of Sterling, Illinois ignored their attempts to pull him over.  Authorities are now trying to identify him “before he hurts anyone or himself.”

Sterling Police said the boy was seen riding an older blue-colored smaller sport-style ATV in the road on 11th Street near Locust Street around 10:40 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015. When an officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the ATV rider did not stop.

The ATV rider, who was between ages 11 and 16, was described as a thin white male wearing a light-colored open-faced helmet, according to Sterling Police. He was traveling faster than 50 mph and was not stopping at stop signs. An officer followed the rider in an attempt to pull him over, but the officer eventually stopped chasing him.

“In the interest of public safety, the pursuit of the individual on the ATV was terminated before the subject could be apprehended,” said a statement from the Sterling Police Department.

Police have gotten several complaints about the rider.  If you have any idea who may be riding this ATV, you are asked to contact the Sterling Police Department at 815-632-6640. You can also call Whiteside County Crimestoppers at 815-625-7867.  The Sterling Police Department accepts tips to their email at tipline@sterling-il.gov.
