More than a dozen presidential hopefuls spoke at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa.  The candidates discussed various faith-based topics at the event Saturday, July 18, 2015, but some comments made by Donald Trump had citizens buzzing.

Trump's remarks targeted former presidential nominee, Senator John McCain, according to WHO-TV.

Trump was asked about previous comments he had made on McCain.

"[Referring] to John McCain, a war hero, five and a half years as a [Prisoner of War] and you call him a "dummy." Is that appropriate in running for president?" Trump was asked by host Frank Luntz.

"Let's take John McCain," Trump says.

Trump explained that he didn't like McCain because of a situation in Phoenix, Arizona where 15,000 people showed up to hear Trump speak and McCain referred to them as "crazies," Trump claimed.  Trump also said he once supported McCain and gave $1 million to his presidential campaign.

"I supported him, he lost, he let us down," Trump said. "But you know he lost, so I never liked him as much after that because I don't like losers."

After some back and forth with Luntz about McCain's war hero status, Trump explained he had a different opinion.

"He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured," Trump said.

In response to Trump's comments about McCain, several other Republican candidates took to twitter to defend the senator.

Voters had mixed feelings on Trump's comments.
