Stock car races that were set for Thursday night had to wait when strong storms struck the Knox County Fairgrounds in Galesburg.
Strong wind, vivid lightning, and torrential rain were part of the storms that began around 6 p.m. and stayed strong until after dark.
Knox County Fair spokesperson Lynn Brown said fans were sheltered under the grandstand until it was safe to evacuate the fairgrounds.
Aside from water pooled from heavy rain, the most significant property damage was to the Pork Producers' tent, Brown said.
No injuries were reported.
