A 19-year-old who battled a rare form of cancer aspired to play college basketball.  Before she passed away, Lauren Hill was able to experience her dream and play NCAA basketball for Mount St. Joseph.

On July 15, 2015, Hill was honored with the “Best Moment” Espy award.

Hill was a freshman at Mount St. Joseph when she was able to start in the season opener.  Because she was battling a brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, her school asked the NCAA if the first game of the season could be moved up by two weeks, so Hill could play. The answer was “yes.”

“Today has been the best day I’ve ever had,” Hill told the crowd after the game back in 2014.  She was given the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award for overcome adversity and serving as positive role model.
