Drivers going from Iowa to Illinois on the I-74 Bridge can expect longer travel times beginning Monday, July 20, 2015.
Illinois-bound drivers on the bridge will have only one open lane, instead of the usual two lanes. The lane restriction will start near the State Street and Grant Street exit. Crews will be taking off two inches of concrete to fix cracks.
“They do annual inspections sometimes or bi-annual, but we always seem to find something that's deteriorated on that bridge. So we continually have to spend about $1 million a year just maintaining it,” said Mark Brandl, Construction Engineer with the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Work is expected to be finished August 9th.
