The Rock Island Arsenal could be impacted by the next round of reductions by the U.S. Army this week.
The U.S. Army will cut 40,000 troops and 17,000 civilian positions from military bases across the country by 2017. They are expected to announce on Thursday which military bases will see those cuts.
Representatives for Illinois Congresswoman Cherri Bustos and Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack said they are still waiting for more information on the cuts and if they will impact the Rock Island Arsenal.
Currently, there are a little over 900 troops on the arsenal and over 6,000 civilian positions.
The Quad Cities Chamber visited the Pentagon earlier this year to speak with officials about the cuts, but didn't get much information on how they will impact the Rock Island Arsenal.
"People in my position across the country, who have installations in their community, are eagerly waiting what the Pentagon is going to announce," said Jason Gordon, Vice President of the Quad Cities Chamber. "The Pentagon is just not going to release that until they're ready to release it."
President Obama said, due to budget constraints, he plans to cut the U.S. military size down to its lowest troop level since before World War II.
