Community members from Kewanee and Wethersfield have a better idea if the two districts can be combined.
Tuesday night a feasibility study was presented. The study looked at several factors, from enrollment, test scores, transportation and financial status. The study shows combining the two districts into one could work. Not only could combining the two districts have an academic advantage but they could save some money.
One option thrown out was to have pre-k through 8th grade attend at Wethersfield and 9th through 12th grade attend at Kewanee. The soonest the consolidation could happen is 2017. There's still a lot of work left to be done, from passing out petition to getting it approved to be on the ballot.
"The community and the new school board it's their job to figure out is this something that we can do, is it feasible for us as a community," said Samantha Harker, a committee member.
The committee created to look into consolidation hopes to have it as a referendum on the November 2016 ballot.
