SUMTER, S.C. — A South Carolina couple is facing neglect charges for allegedly forcing their 14-year-old daughter to live in the woods as a form of punishment after she ate a Pop-Tart without permission.

Crystal Lynn Driggers, 36, and James Allen Driggers, 33, are accused of banishing their daughter from their home after they discovered she ate the sweet treat, according to The State.

The girl was reportedly told not to come home for a week. Someone was delivering food to her at specific times, according to the report.

The girl was instructed to pitch a tent in the woods and was given a whistle, flashlight, toilet paper and a watch. When rain and storms moved through the area on Thursday, “the child was also left to fend for herself ,” a news release from the sheriff’s department said.

The 14-year-old and her four siblings are staying with their grandparents while the parents each face one count of unlawful neglect of a child. Additional charges are possible.
