River Drive in Davenport, Iowa was back open Sunday, July 5, 2015, but it was a pool of water there the day before.
A water main break near Mississippi Avenue and River Drive caused traffic to be shut down on Fourth of July.
The water main burst around 9 a.m. in the 800 block of Mississippi Ave., spilling "large volumes of water" onto the roadway, said Sergeant Michael Murphy in a statement. Several people reported the break to the Scott Emergency Communications Center.
Iowa American Water crews went to the scene to repair the break and around 2:30 p.m., River Drive had been reopened to westbound traffic.
"Westbound River Drive is limited to one lane just east and west of Mississippi Avenue due to ongoing repairs..." Murphy later said in an update. "Please use caution when approaching this area."
On Sunday, Mississippi Avenue onto River Drive remained closed, but River Drive was completely reopened.
