One week after the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, one of it's strongest critics was in Iowa Thursday, July 2, 2015 to talk about religious freedom.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee held a town hall style meeting at the Drake Restaurant in Burlington.

"Well, they had no legal basis to make it. The Supreme Court can`t make a law, and they certainly can`t suspend the laws of nature and the laws of nature`s God, which is essentially what they tried to do," said Huckabee.

He also made a promise for his first day in office if elected.

"When I`m president on the first day, I will sign an executive order that enforces the reglious liberty  rights for every citizen every business owner, every church, every pastor every priest every rabbi," he said to applause.

A joint poll from Monmouth College and radio station KBUR in Burlington released Thursday finds Huckabee in the middle of the GOP pack among likely Iowa caucus attendees. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is in the lead.
