Burlington murder suspect arrested in jail after altercation with another inmate

He was already accused of killing another man over a dice game, and now he’s charged with assault after an altercation in the Des Moines County Jail.

He was already accused of killing another man over a dice game, and now he’s charged with assault after an altercation in the Des Moines County Jail.

Maurice Green, 43, was arrested in Galesburg, Illinois in April 2015; he was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old Matthew Quinton Banks who died at a home in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street, in Burlington, April 15.  The two men reportedly argued over a dice game just before the shooting.

Green has been held on $2 million bond since his arrest.

Now, police say Green faces an assault charge.

“The assault resulted from an argument between Mr. Green and another inmate,” said a statement from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.  Green allegedly slapped the other inmate.
