Arsenal helps install new fence at White House

The new “anti-climb” sharp points, at the top of the fence surrounding the White House, were made at the Rock Island Arsenal.   Installation of the security enhancement began Wednesday, July 1, 2015, and was expected to take about six weeks to complete.

“The feature was designed by the U.S. Secret Service and fabricated by Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, the Army’s only full-scale metal manufacturer,” said JMTC spokesperson Rhys Fullerlove.

The new fence top is considered a temporary measure, “meant to satisfy security needs while a long-term solution is designed and implemented,” Fullerlove said.

“The final design will be submitted to the Commission of Fine Arts and National Capital Planning Commission in the fall of 2015 for review and approval,” Fullerlove said.

Construction on the permanent solution was expected to begin in 2016.
