Sterling mall damaged by severe storms partially reopens

Just days after being damaged by storms, a portion of the Northland Mall in Sterling, Illinois has reopened to the public.

Just days after being damaged by storms, a portion of the Northland Mall in Sterling, Illinois has reopened to the public.

The reopening of Bergner’s and JC Penney were announced on the mall’s Facebook page Thursday, June 25, 2015.

The mall has nearly two dozen stores and restaurants. The rest remained closed.

On Monday, June 22 a wall and part of the roof were destroyed at Dunham’s Sports in the mall.  Patrons and employees were inside the building at the time of the storm; no injuries were reported.  Some people reported huddling with others in a mall bathroom while the storm passed.
