Residents using phones with numbers that begin with area code 309 and prefix 234 could not call 911 in the Coal Valley and Orion areas of Rock Island and Henry Counties.
The problem was temporary according to a statement from Rock Island County Sheriff Gerald Bustos. The outage was reported Thursday morning, June 18, 2015.
“Frontier Communications is aware of the problem and is currently working on it,” the statement said. “If you need 911 assistance and you live in Rock Island County you can call 309-794-9111. If you live in Henry County you can call 309-937-3911.”
Service to 911 was restored for those affected by about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
