Water was turned back on at 8:30 Tuesday night, June 16, 2015, after the city had to turn it off because of heavy rainfall.

“On a normal day here we have about 800 thousand to 1.2 million gallons of sewage go through the plant,” said Rock Falls Mayor, Bill Wescott.

After the rain they got close to 8.4 million gallons. The city decided to turn the water off to give the pumps a break. The city set up emergency stations around town, giving out free water and having portable restrooms put up.

However, this is the second time the city has had to shut their water off. The first time was back in February 2014.

“We went through literally the same scenario. The exception there was the lift station an electrical system failed shutting the pumps down,” said Mayor Wescott.

The city will remain in a boil order until samples show the water is safe. The city should get the results of those samples back Thursday morning, June 18th.
