With dozens of construction projects happening in the Quad Cities we're seeing more big equipment around like backhoes, bulldozers and cranes.

News 8 caught up with a local company that rents those big rigs, and the equipment rental business is booming.

"Third and fourth quarter this year, you're going to see big increases in construction work in the Quad Cities," said Andy Fliege, The Rental Guys President.

You may have already noticed the bright orange booms in downtown Rock Island. The Rental Guys supplied the contractor with that equipment for a facelift at the library.

"If everyone had to go buy their stuff instead of renting, that's tough for them to do simply from the fact that the large projects that are coming like the 74 bridge. To outlay that type of capital to do a project like that is difficult to do nowadays. It's a good thing all around to help projects get going that otherwise would be delayed due to higher interest rates," Fliege said.

Revenue for companies like The Rental Guys in Moline is expected to grow continuously over the next four years, according to the American Rental Association. Their equipment will be helping grow the community.

Whether it's work on the Fort Armstrong building here in Rock Island or smaller projects like your own personal garden, renting equipment remains a cost efficient option.

"They don't have to put the capital out to purchase the piece of equipment. And they don't have the maintenance issues; we handle all that for them. We do delivery and pick up for them, so pretty much they can make a phone call, they hang up, they know that piece is going to be taken care of," added Fliege.

The Illinois side of the quad cities isn't the only one needing equipment. The Rental Guys will soon be sending gear out to the new Rhythm City Casino and the new Genesis Hospital in Davenport.

The American Rental Association predicts construction rental revenue for companies nationwide will be almost $26 billion this year alone.
