There’s a new commander in charge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island.

There’s a new commander in charge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island.

Col. Craig Baumgartner became the 48th Rock Island District commander at a ceremony held Friday, June 5, 2015 at Historic Quarters One  on Arsenal Island.

Baumgartner has 22 years of Army service.  He previously served as Command Engineer of the U.S. Army Cyber and Second Army.  Now he’ll be responsible for the 900 employees administering federal water resource programs in a district headquartered on Arsenal Island, that encompasses parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri.

Baumgartner assumed command from Col. Mark Deschenes who had served as commander since June 29, 2012.
