A Rock Island man is headed to prison for forty years in connection with the murder of a  local tattoo artist who was shot to death and robbed in 2013.

Aaron Henderson, 22, will have to serve the entire sentence.

Derek Jackson was shot to death in his house shortly before Christmas 2014.  His girlfriend and son were inside the home at the time.

Henderson was discovered rifling through the pockets of Jackson, as he laid dead on the floor.  Henderson was considered a friend of Jackson.

"I can't think of anything sadder than opening your front door and having people you know, you consider friends, kill you.  For what reason? We don't know. For a few dollars?" said Judge Mike Meersman.

"This never should have happened, a senseless act of violence, and the ones guilty must be punished," said Susan Poe, the victim's mother.

Prosecutors say the gun believed to be the murder weapon has recently been found and is being tested at a lab for DNA prints.

That could lead to another arrest in the case.
