Running back Adrian Peterson returned to the Minnesota Vikings Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Peterson had been suspended without pay for “abusive discipline” of his four-year-old son.

The suspension began in November of 2014 when he violated the NFL's personal conduct policy.  He had previously been suspended from play by the team after allegations surfaced in September 2014 that he used a “switch,” or thin stick, to discipline the child.

On Friday, April 17, Peterson's suspension was over and he was reinstates as an active player according to a statement from the NFL.

According to a report by ESPN, Peterson said that during his suspension time he was conditioning to stay in shape for the game.

"... it came down just to getting back in the building, being around my teammates, being around my coaches, getting back into the swing of things," Peterson said, according to the report.

Peterson also said he completed all of his required counseling after pleading no contest back in November.

"I made a mistake, and I'm not taking it lightly at all," Peterson said, according to ESPN. "It's something that I regret. My son knows that, the people that truly know me, know my character and know what type of character I am when I'm with my kids.  They know that as well, and that's really, to me, all that matters."
