Welcome to June! Meteorological Summer began on a quiet, cool note. But things will heat up in more ways than one this month. We will see increasing daylight through June 21st this year. These longer days also mean warmer temperatures. Our average high temperature will surge into the 80s during June. But July is the warmest month of the year here in the Quad Cities.

There is more storm activity in the month of June. That’s true, even though the peak of “tornado season” occurred on the first of the month. As moisture builds in the atmosphere heading into the first part of Summer, storms are capable of producing more rainfall. For that reason, the risk of flash flooding goes up in June.

Finally, if you have travel plans to the Gulf Coast, Eastern Seaboard, or Caribbean, make sure you keep tabs on tropical storm activity! The chance of tropical storms and hurricanes increases in June, peaking in early September.
