Local Boy Scouts did their share to help fill the River Bend Food Bank.
Troops spent the day collecting food donations at several grocery stores in Iowa Saturday, May 30, 2015. The effort is part of their annual "Scouting for Food" campaign.
Scouts hope to gather more than 3,000 pounds of food as well as monetary donations so they can shop for extra items.
"Scouts always need to learn that they need to help out the community just in general and hopefully carry that to adulthood," said Cub Scout Committee Chair, Heather Drace. "They need to realize that not everything is just handed to them and there are people out there that are in need."
The Scouts planned to continue the campaign the next Saturday as they travel door-to-door in Davenport asking for more donations.
