As Sen. Rand Paul, (R) Kentucky, signs copies of his new book in Davenport, he also hopes to put his signature on a successful presidential campaign.

"We're going to have a big decision in this election," he told a crowd topping 100 at Modern Woodmen Park.  "People say, 'How will you stand out?'  I say, I don't think that's going to be my problem."

Not far away, Iowa Democrats sign a faux version of Paul's book, titled "Take a Seat."

"Let me be crystal clear, he isn't a new type of Republican," said Iowa Democratic Black Caucus Vice Chair Jamie Woods.

Paul points to polls that show he can beat Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton in Iowa and several other states.

"Many of these policies came under the first Clinton," he told reporters before the event.  "Do we want another Clinton? Is this Clinton going to be different than the first Clinton?"

Woods counters with Paul's take on domestic and foreign issues.

"He wants to make it harder for our children to receive a quality education, or for workers to make a decent wage," she said.

But Paul's supporters admire his stand against the Patriot Act and commitment to individual rights.

"I think that Rand Paul really sets himself apart from the rest of the pack," said Elizabeth Hayes, Cedar Rapids.  "I really think that should help him win the election."

"He's really the candidate that's got the courage to stand up to the real issues, not just the talkng points," added Joey Gallagher, Iowa City.

Paul challenges Republicans to be bigger, better and bolder.  It's a mantra to reclaim the White House.

"Republicans need to ask themselves, who can win in the fall?" he said.  "I can win in the fall by not giving up one ounce of what we believe as Republicans."

Confidence for the long campaign to come.
