Students from Illinois colleges and ROWVA High School teamed up and received high honors at the Global Finals of Destination Imagination 2015.
The competition, which involves creative thinking and problem solving, took place from May 20 to 23 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Two teams, “Team IT UP” and “Make Some ILLINOISE” earned first place in the Instant Challenge, second place in the Improv Challenge and third place in the Structure Challenge.
Team members included: Brent Nelson from Black Hawk College, Harley Carlson from ROWVA High School, Emily Hennenfent from Southern Illinois University, Montana Carlson from Truman State University, Colin Erickson from US Army, Wes Anderson from Berklee College of Music and Ben Thornton from Illinois State University.
There were 17,000 participants and appraisers and supporters from 42 states and 32 countries at the competition. Nearly 1,500 teams competed in the challenges, which incorporate the application of science, technology, engineering, and math as well as improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation, team work, and community service.
