Moline neighborhoods were placed under boil advisories after water pressure dropped over the Memorial Day weekend.
A precautionary boil order was issued after a 12-inch water main failed, causing water pressure to drop at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2015. The area affected was from Interstate 74 east to 38th Street, and from 35th Avenue south to 38th Avenue according to Greg Swanson, Utilities General Manager for the City of Moline.
Repairs were underway on the broken water main Monday morning, and a precautionary boil order was issued for water customers served by that line.
“This means that affected customers are advised to boil your water for 5 minutes prior to drinking or cooking with it,” Swanson said. “It is not necessary to boil water used for other purposes, such as dishwashing, laundry and household cleaning.”
After lab tests confirmed no contamination, the precautionary boil order was lifted Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2015, for Rock View Estates, from I-74 east to 38th Street and from 35th Avenue south to 37th Avenue, Swanson said.
“Please note there is a concurrent adjoining boil order that encompasses 35th Street hill from 37th Avenue to 38th Avenue,” said a follow-up statement from Swanson on Monday. He clarified Tuesday that other locations also under precautionary boil orders included homes at 3105 and 3109 29th Street, several homes in the 1500 block of 46th Avenue, and homes at 4575 and 4601 16th Street.
