A Moline teenager will be tried as an adult on charges of murder and aggravated battery.
LaMaree Wilson-Neulieb, 17, made his first appearance in a Rock Island County courtroom on Thursday, one day after his arrest.
He's charged with opening fire Wednesday, May 20, on a car near 53rd Street and 47th Avenue, killing Zac Phillips, 18, and seriously wounding Erik Roberson, also 18.
Prosecutors transferred the case to adult court today.
"The law does not allow us to file this in juvenile court because of the seriousness of the charges," said States Attorney John McGehee.
When the judge asked Neulieb if he understood the possible penalties for the charges, including life in prison, Neulieb replied he wasn't guilty. The teen's mother was in the courtroom sobbing, and later declined comment while leaving the hearing.
He's being held in the Mary Davis Juvenile Detention facility in Galesburg on 2 million dollars bond. His next court appearance is set for June 2.
The States Attorney says he can't comment on the possible motive in the case, and says the last he had heard, the other victim was in "an induced coma."
