A Clinton, Iowa neighborhood remained on high alert after an unexplained shooting on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

In a media release, the Clinton Police Department said they responded in reference to a robbery in the 200 block of 19th Place on May 19. Officers said they were approached by two people, Daniel L. Gibson, who lives at the home, and Randy D. Head. Gibson and Head told police when they arrived at the home they were confronted by two suspects with weapons. The two men told police they were forced into the home while the suspects searched the residence.

According to police, while the suspects were searching the house, one of the alleged victims pulled a firearm and exchanged gunshots with one of the suspects. Gibson and Head told police the suspects left in a dark-colored vehicle.

About the same time officers were sent to the home on 19th Place, officers were notified by the Mercy North Emergency Department, stating they had a gunshot victim. Police identified the gunshot victim as one of the suspects in the robbery. As of May 21, 2015, the second suspect was at-large.

"It's a little close to home for comfort," said Laura Johannsen, who lives directly across the street from the crime scene.

Asked about the people who live in the home, Johannsen said she didn't interact with them much but said,"there's a lot of traffic in and out" at the residence.

Johannsen and other neighbors huddled together Thursday morning as Clinton Police and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit hovered the home where police said shots were fired.

Police told News 8 they have yet to find a motive for the shooting.

On Wednesday, May 20, 24 hours after the shooting on 19th Place, police were called to the 1100 block of South 12th street in reference to shots fired.

A witness told police they saw two people standing outside of a vehicle, as they left gunshots were heard. Police said the witness approached the neighbor's house and found what looked like a bullet hole. The resident of house was not injured.

Police are unsure if the shootings were related. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Clinton Police Department at 563-243-1457.
