Indiana man suffering from Alzheimer’s found in Illinois ‘weak and confused’

Nathaniel Burns was reunited with his family after he was found northeast of the Quad Cities, roughly six-and-a-half hours after his vehicle was initially spotted.

Police said someone saw a man walking away from a disabled vehicle on the northbound side of I-39 near MP 87.  The vehicle was found, but Burns was not with it. Just after 6 p.m. Burns was found near the “Petrol Truck Stop on Route 38 at I-39 in Rochelle.

Burns was “weak and confused” when police found him. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and reunited with his family.

The vehicle of a missing man with Alzheimer’s Disease was reportedly spotted northeast of Peoria.

Police were called to assist a driver near mile 177 on Interstate 55 southbound near Pontiac, Illinois.  Police found out that the vehicle in question belonged to 81-year-old Nathaniel Burns, who was reported missing from Hammond, Iowa.  Though they searched the area Thursday, May 21, around 11:30 a.m., police said Burns was nowhere to be found.

Burns is described as a black man with black hair and hazel eyes, standing 5-feet, 10-inches tall, and weighing about 155 pounds, according to Illinois State Police.

Police said Burns was reportedly driving a four-door white Pontiac G6 with Indiana plates, “UUL258.”

Burns’ family said they last saw him wearing a gray jacket, gray Dockers pants, and black shoes.
