With wind chill values in the 30s this morning, it’s hard to imagine that 90s are on the way. But believe it or not, 90s aren’t too out of the ordinary in the latter part of May. In fact, late May is actually pretty much spot on when we get our first 90 degree days of the year in the Quad Cities.

Going back through a hundred years of records, May 31st is the middle of the road when it comes to our first 90 degree temperature. Just last year, we saw our latest 90 degree day on record, not occurring until July 22nd. April 10, 1930 was the date of the earliest 90 degree temperature on record for the Quad Cities.

As far as 90s this year? I don’t see any happening in the next two weeks, but in the next three weeks (week of June 7-13), I think it’s much more likely.
