About 6,000 people in the Quad Cities suffer from the chronic disease Lupus. One woman living with the disease is making education and awareness her mission.

It's been a long road to get where Lisa Eveleth is today.

"It was pretty dark in the beginning and tough," said Eveleth.

22 years ago Eveleth was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease. Fast forward to today and she's getting ready for the 2nd Annual Live Fit With Lupus Race in LeClaire. She created a non-profit foundation a year on a half ago to help patients with autoimmune diseased, called Live Fit With Lupus. The race is one fundraiser held to raise money to pay for support groups and other programs the foundation puts on.

"When you come in and get a diagnosis they give you this pamphlet and it's wonderful that they`re there for you but then what is the next step? We want to be the now what," said Eveleth.

The purpose of the foundation is to create awareness and teach others not to let their disease control their life.

"Education and knowledge is power and the more that you educate yourself the better you can live your life," said Eveleth.

Eveleth hopes to expand her foundation and help even more people.
