Several high school students in Cedar County could face criminal charges after an extreme senior prank.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2015 vandalism was discovered at North Cedar High School, according to a statement from the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office.

Surveillance video revealed that three students wearing face masks had entered North Cedar High School on Monday evening, May 11.  Two of them were carrying five-gallon buckets that were full of fish bait.  The three students then went to another entrance of the school and let two more students in who police say were identified by the video surveillance.

The fish bait was poured all over the cafeteria which caused damage to the carpet.

While the five students were inside, two others were outside of the school putting toilet paper and caution tape in the trees, authorities said.

On Wednesday, the students admitted their involvement to school staff, according to the statement.

“Students disclosed that they had received a key from a staff member at the high school to enter the school to do a senior prank,” the statement said.

The names of the seven involved students were handed over to Cedar County’s Detective Sorgenfrey “to further investigate for criminal charges.”  Students said three of the seven were responsible for the fish bait.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s investigation will be reviewed by the Cedar County Attorney’s office for possible criminal charges.
