A Galesburg woman died and an Abingdon man suffered serious injuries when their vehicles collided head-on in Knox County, Illinois.
Anita Mitchell, 68, was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 41, when a southbound vehicle driven by 16-year-old Ryan Baker crossed the center line and the two vehicles collided just after 9 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015.
"There were several witnesses that had observed the vehicle being driven by Baker, cross the center line striking the Mitchell vehicle," said a statement from the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell and Baker both had to be extricated from their vehicles, the statement said.
Baker suffered multiple injuries and he was airlifted to a hospital in Peoria.
Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
