The River Drive exit for traffic heading Illinois-bound on I-74 will be closed starting Monday, May 11, 2015.
The exit was temporarily reopened for the winter, but needs to be closed again for crews to complete the paving for River Drive and its ramp connections.
Crews will also continue their work on River Drive/Third Avenue by placing new concrete pavement on River Drive from 19th Street to 23rd Street. This project began in September of 2014 when workers replaced the water mains and sanitary sewers.
All of this work is tied into plans for what will eventually be a new I-74 Bridge. Project managers with the Illinois Department of Transportation say the preparation will make things easier once work on the actual bridge span begins.
"That main project won't start until 2017, but this way, we have the local roads prepared and ready to accept those ramps when they come online," said IDOT's Becky Marruffo.
Drivers should take the 7th Avenue exit in Moline to avoid the construction.
The $6.9 million project is expected to be done by the end of May.
