Families had the opportunity to get a closer look at Iowa’s state rock.
Geodes Galore was held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Hurtsville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
The geode was designated the state rock of Iowa in 1967.
Participants at Geodes Galore got to crack open the rocks to find the crystals inside.
Cracking the rocks open was a little tough, according to Giada Melbard but she said there was a trick to it, which helped her get it open to see the crystals.
Organizers say they had a great turnout and would like to hold the event again.
