The city of Davenport will build a new roundabout at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Jersey Ridge Road. The roundabout will help deal with increased traffic that's headed to the new casino.
The city of Davenport is using TIF funds to pay for the project, which is upsetting to the Scott County Board of Supervisors. County staff say they'll receive less money because the city is using TIF revenue to pay for the project, instead of sales tax revenue.
"The city has other funding sources to do that other than TIF revenue," Planning and Development Director Tim Huey said. "The TIF revenue contains a portion of the county's levee, and so in essence, the city is asking the county to support that financially, which the city is perfectly able to do, but we're able to consult, and so we're expressing our concerns with that."
City of Davenport Planning and Development Director Bruce Berger says he does not know, whether new sales tax revenue would completely pay for the roundabout or not. Berger says future property tax increment money from the casino area, will pay for the roundabout. There's no word on when construction is supposed to be complete.
