The nation's largest one-day food drive happens on the second Saturday in May, and you can help.

Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations at mailboxes throughout the Quad Cities area as part of the Stamp Out Hunger initiative Saturday, May 9, 2015.

Letter carriers planned to leave 100,000 bags to Quad City homes as they try to raise 100,000 pounds of food during the 2015 campaign.

"Just fill the bag, or any sturdy bag, with non-perishable food in non-breakable containers (e.g., boxes and cans) and leave next to your mailbox on Saturday, May 9," said a statement from Jennifer Walker of the United Way of the Quad Cities Area.  "Recommended donations include:  canned soups, canned vegetables, canned meats and fish, pasta, peanut butter, rice, and cereal."

The food is taken to River Bend Foodbank where it is distributed to hundreds of feeding programs, in 22 counties, in and around the Quad Cities.
