It could be the end of the road for a big potential project in Rock Island. New city council members may already be leading the discussion in a different direction.

Virgil Mayberry and Joshua Schipp are the newest faces of the Rock Island city council. Both say their election wins are a sign that people in Rock Island want to see change.

"We have got to get better," said Mayberry.

Change is what they plan to bring, from better communication with taxpayers to a vote against moving forward with the Jumer's Crossing project. The legal fight with Milan to potentially build the mixed-use development near Jumer's Casino has already topped $150,000. Schipp and Mayberry say they're ready to move on.

"We've utilized a substantial amount of taxpayer's resources on an issue that I feel like had I been in the position prior I would have argued this case had already been settled in 2005," said Schipp.

They also want to phase out a road repair bill that would make Rock Island residents pay for thousands of dollars in road repairs.

"I think the city should get rid of it and do something more equitable for the citizens," said Mayberry.

The council will discuss that road repair bill at their next council meeting, May 11th.
