Genesis Health System is looking for about 100 nurses, due to a nursing shortage in the Quad Cities.
Chief Nurse Executive Jackie Anhalt says the hospital needs so many nurses right now because people are living longer, but she also says that younger people don't like the hours of nursing, because nurses can work all hours of the night.
In just two weeks, Jennifer Lindbom will graduate from Scott Community College. She went to Pleasant Valley High School and graduated in 2011. Because Lindbom is interested in nursing, she could move to a number of places across the country, because many cities currently need nurses. To get people like Lindbom interested in Genesis, the hospital offers sign-on bonuses for all registered nurses.
"Being 22 years old and having student loans and debt coming out of college, you have to pay those," Lindbom said. "So the sing on bonus is a good incentive to kind of give you a cushion to start your career off and building off from there."
"I'm staying here," she said. "I'm very family oriented, and this is where my family's at, so this is where I'll stay for now."
Genesis has a nursing job fair at three of its facilities on Tuesday, May 5th, 2015. The fairs are in Aledo, DeWitt, and Silvis. They start at 1 p.m.
